Give Me Park Avenue (Holiday version)

Berlin-Christmas

      1. Give Me Park Avenue (Holiday version)
This is a re-orchestrated holiday version of my song “Give Me Park Avenue”.   I created this version of the song to add more sparkle to enhance the holiday mood.  I was going for that retro orchestral holiday instrumental sound that you might hear in TV ads or retail stores to put people in a festive mood.  See my blog article about composing this song:  Composing Christmas Instrumental Music  (note:  the photo on the right was taken in December 2010 in Berlin, Germany when I was there for a business trip)

Las Ramblas

      1. Las Ramblas
I wrote this song to capture the feeling of shopping at an outdoor market, much like the way I’ve felt when visiting an area called Las Ramblas in Barcelona. I used handclaps, acoustic guitar, and other acoustic sounds to get a more earthy sound as well as to add a more organic rhythm sound.

Late Night Stomp’n

Comedy-Club

      1. Late Night Stomp'n
I’ve always loved some of the theme music used in late-night-comedy shows. This song is my own experiment in coming up with a theme for a late-night-comedy show, using all of the elements that I like so much about this kind of theme music

Avalon Morning

Russian River Valley

      1. Avalon Morning
I wrote this song while on vacation in the Russian River Valley (California’s Wine Country) in the summer of 2012. I tried to capture the sound of the morning among the redwood trees and vineyards surrounding the place we were staying.

Hero’s Story – Movie Trailer Theme

I’ve always loved the music that is used behind movie trailers. It has a way of catapulting you into the story for 2 minutes to get you excited about seeing an upcoming movie. I wrote this piece hybrid orchestral piece to be used a movie trailer soundtrack, combining orchestral sounds, synth textures, organic sounds, and sound design for the transitions and hit points. The piece is written in three sections, which is typical in a movie trailer format. The first section is used as underscore to set the scene of the story and the main character. The second section introduces all of the obstacles and conflict within the story, and the last section provides a build up montage of key points in the movie, with a dramatic ending.

Real Drama Queens

      1. Real Drama Queens

I wrote this song as a possible theme song for a reality TV show about a group of women friends who stir up a lot of drama from week-to-week, hence the title of the song. I combined elements 60s dance music along with more modern grooves to give it more pizzazz

Rural Southern Theme Music for Reality TV

      1. Gator Alley

      2. Swamp Romp

Here are some rural southern theme music examples that I’ve created for reality-TV-show opportunities based on this setting. I used elements of Country, Blues, as well as more modern grooves that are common with the music used in these kinds of shows.

Song for Berlin

This song was inspired by my many visits to Berlin, Germany over the years. This city has so much history, and stories to tell, many of them sad in nature.  My time there left an impression on me and I’ve always felt the need to write a piece of music to capture the way this city made me feel.

Surf Maniacs at Manhattan Pier

I’ve been a member of a surf band for several years and I’ve always loved the challenge of trying to capture those classic sounds of surf music from the early 60s. The instrumental music of that era had so much style and an exciting vibe. Fender amps with plenty of reverb and tremolo, in addition guitars with “whammy bars” became a must have for every garage band trying to emulate this style. I’ve tried to recreate that sound with this song

The Lonely Parade

I wrote this guitar instrumental after being inspired by the music of Harry Nilsson. I used my French-made Duponte Selmer-style guitar for the melody on this track to provide a more melancholy sound.

The Longing

I wrote this piece as par of a score for a short film (Invisible Me) about the neglect and isolation that children of drug addicts experience.  This theme was meant to convey the feeling of loneliness and longing for the love of an absent parent consumed with drug addiction.  The film was pitched for several film festivals but never released.

The Lost Dutchman Trail

Lost Dutchman Trail

      1. The Lost Dutchman Trail - The Lost Dutchman Trail composed and recorded by Jim Pfeifer 2013 All Rights Reserved
I wrote this song as a self-imposed assignment to write a piece of music in the style of a spaghetti western films of the 1960s. I’ve always loved that music! This piece is the result of a few months work on the song ideas and arrangement I came up with. Not only did I have to spend some time working up my my whistling technique, I also called on my friend John Ryan to play the harmonica part to get that old-west vibe that I was going for. He nailed it. The real Lost Dutchman Trail is not far from where I live in Arizona. This song is an attempt to capture some of the magic and beauty I see in those picturesque Superstition Mountains.

The Sunshine Song

I wrote this song to capture the happy, energetic feeling of being outside under the sun.  Several publishers were looking for happy music that would be suitable for use in TV shows and advertisements for children.  I wanted to come up with something happy, and energetic.  I used Guitar, Ukulele, an upright bass along with a more modern groove and synth parts to add more energy.

Winter Twilight

Winter-Twilight

      1. Winter Twilight
I started this song ideas as a simple experiment with a guitar part and vocal melody behind it, but the song took on a new life as I started writing orchestral parts to go with the guitar and vocal part. As the song developed it sounded like a Winter theme, so I re-titled it, even though I wrote it the midst of the Arizona summer heat, probably wishing for cooler weather.
